Post by Frederico C. on Facebook about a Galaxy Di Bologna sign.
The Galaxy arcade in Bologna.
The Galaxy arcade, active in Piazza VIII Agosto in Bologna, was an authentic institution. Originally born as a circus, and run directly by Zaccaria di Calderara in Reno, it closed permanently in the early 2000s. In this room in 1996 some scenes from the movie "Jack Frusciante left the group" were shot, taken from the novel of the same name by Enrico Brizzi
Once closed and emptied, after some time the renovations started, to make room for the new McDonald's. During that period I often passed in the area, for work, and one day I happened to happen during the workers' lunch break. I stopped to observe the already empty spaces from outside, when one of the workers, seeing me, asked me, "would you also come and play here...? "
It turned out that he was from Ferrara, and that he was also an avid attender, of this and the "Stop" room practically opposite, next to the ACI; in fact he often took the train to come to Bologna to play on Saturday afternoons.
In the meantime we go in for a walk; practically nothing is left, fixtures, furniture, everything eliminated. Dust and debris everywhere.
The only thing still present on almost all the walls, a horizontal row of decorative bricks all the same, that ran along all the walls at the same height, without interruption. Behind the cashier's area, on the right of the entrance, the bricks were different, and they bear the name of the place and the year of inauguration.
I still see them there, and I try to ask: “what will these end up, did you throw them away? "Having confirmation that everything was being demolished, I ask if I can take them off and take them as a souvenir; not only does he tell me it's okay if we hurry up that his lunch break is over, but he helps me with a couple of tools to get them off the wall without breaking them."
I’ve then framed the bricks in a kind of 3D picture; in the next few days you can see them again, hanging on a wall, at TILT - il Museo del Flipper in Bologna.
